[Krekler 1965]  Lactiflora: Eye-catching wine red Japanese-form flowers with large guard petals surrounding a contrasting center of ivory staminodes. Foliage is dark purple red on spring emergence and maintains a purplish cast throughout the growing season with fall foliage color adding additional interest. Easy to grow and a reliable performer. Also a wonderful cut flower. Blooms late midseason.
